Royal Philips (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) has revealed a new consumer health monitoring system which can incorporate data from at least five different kinds of devices.

The Philips HealthSuite Digital Platform is a system of wirelessly integrated health measurement devices that gather information for Philips personal health programs. All the devices are Bluetooth enabled, connecting automatically and transferring data to the cloud-based Philips HealthSuite app, so that users can track measurements over time. The lead device is the Philips health watch, which incorporates an optical sensor and accelerometer that continuously and automatically measures a wide range of health biometrics, including heart rate, activity, and sleep patterns.

The other four devices include an upper arm blood pressure monitor, a tubeless, rechargeable device that measures systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) as well pulse, with an large easy-to-read backlit display; a wrist blood pressure monitor, which also measure BP and heart rate, and is rechargeable via USB; a body analysis scale, which measures weight, estimates body fat, and calculates body mass index (BMI), with support for up to eight user profiles; and an ear thermometer for use in adults, children, and newborns that delivers accurate results in just two seconds.

“Consumers are increasingly engaged in their personal health and they want solutions that empower them to stay healthy and prevent illness,” said Pieter Nota, executive vice president and CEO of Personal Health at Philips. “They understand that there is a need for active health management to stem the rising tide of chronic diseases and unhealthy lifestyles.”

All the devices are intended for use with Philips personal health programs, developed with leading doctors and psychologists and designed to empower individuals to measure vital signs to understand how lifestyle choices affect their body; set goals and monitor their progress; and stay motivated by following personalized recommendations.
