The Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) (London, UK) will be taking 120 UK companies to MEDICA 2017, the world's leading medical trade fair taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 13 to 16, 2017. This highlights the desire within the UK to forge deeper, more sustainable trading relationships as the country navigates its departure from the EU.

MEDICA is attended by 132,000 specialist visitors from over 120 countries and offers a global platform for companies showcasing their innovative technologies. It also provides a strong platform for delegates to meet with distributors and buyers from around the world to discuss business with existing contacts and to meet with industry peers.

With the UK entering a new era for trade and business, its government has highlighted MedTech, and the broader Life Sciences sector, as playing a critical role in its Industrial Strategy - to propel UK productivity once it leaves the European Union. MedTech is now worth over GBP 17 billion to the UK and is part of a GBP 64 billion UK Life Sciences industry. A recent report titled ‘The Life Sciences Industrial Strategy’ has been welcomed by senior government ministers, and provides the framework for increased funding and support for the sector.

ABHI, the industry association for the medical technology sector in the UK, focuses on championing the benefits and use of safe and effective medical technologies to deliver high quality patient outcomes. With over 260 members, including leading multinational businesses and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK, ABHI leads the advocacy of the industry in order to advance access to medical technology.

In addition to supporting the UK’s exports globally, the ABHI is also keen on speaking with international companies wanting to do business within the UK. Their international membership has been set up to make it more accessible for global companies wishing to partner with their British counterparts.

“The UK is open for business and is keen to forge global healthcare links. With 120 companies exhibiting, we are delighted that the UK Pavilion is at its capacity,” said Paul Benton, Managing Director of International at ABHI. “The technology on show is a wonderful expression of what the industry has to offer in providing value-based healthcare solutions for patients across the globe.”
