Virtualization Feature Developed for Imaging Software-as-a-Service

Posted on 18 Mar 2010
The latest virtualization feature for a Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)/Health Level 7 (HL7) router will allow users to setup Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996-compliant secure virtual routes on a physical DICOM System device. More...
It promises to significantly improve flexibility, and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)-workflow ensuring interoperability within teleradiology, allowing users to employ the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model on an entirely new scale.

Dicom Systems (San Francisco, CA, USA) will be presenting the latest addition to the DCMSYS product family at the upcoming 2010 annual HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference & Exhibition. This industry-driven conference is being held in Atlanta, GA, USA, between March 1-4, 2010.

The feature has been achieved through using advanced routing technology; DICOM HL7 pre-/post-processing, statistic reports API module, and DICOM virtualization--all part of Dicom Systems' DCMSYS ultimate router solution. Storage can be separated either physically or logically, depending on the customer requirement, and it will enable radiology information technology (IT) personnel to operate out of a single DCMSYS device and manage the entire Enterprise radiology network; address interoperability issues when managing a multitude of clients; and run application server provider (ASP) DICOM business. Radiologists will see considerable benefits, as they will be able to use the DCMSYS router to pull or receive only the information they need--instead of having to sort through vast quantities of patient information.

This latest innovation will "virtually” separate DICOM and HL7 rules, configuration and storages, and will serve to further integrate the processes of their systems, allowing for ever better communication across healthcare enterprises with associated improved outcomes for patient care.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is a comprehensive healthcare-stakeholder membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of IT and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.

Dicom Systems offers a completely secure web-based DICOM and HL7 routing and interface engine appliance for hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic imaging centers. Dicom Systems' statistical gateway feature allows every level of user to benefit from historical graphs and statistics in order to manage their teleradiology network. The company's technology can significantly simplify and improve IT structures, and provide a highly efficient and cost-effective solution to enterprise communications.
