The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS; New York, NY, USA) has leased a 4,645 m² space in White Plains (NY, USA) from RPW Group (Rye Brook, NY, USA), which will serve as the new HSS outpatient center in Westchester County.

Plans call for construction to begin in September 2016, with an anticipated opening in the fourth quarter of 2017.The new center will be the largest of the HSS outpatient centers and will include many specialties and technologies, providing access to world-class care more convenient for residents in the greater New York region.

HSS, founded in 1863, is ranked No. 1 in orthopedics in the United States, No. 3 in rheumatology, and No. 7 in geriatrics. It is a member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of Weill Cornell Medical College (New York, NY, USA), and as such all HSS medical staff are faculty of Weill Cornell. Other HSS outpatient centers are located at Fresh Meadows in Queens, Uniondale in Long Island, Paramus (NJ, USA), Stamford (CT, USA), as well as several sites in Manhattan, and the HSS Spine and Sport center in Jupiter (FL, USA).

“HSS is dedicated to providing access to high-quality specialty care, and our increased presence in regional communities is evident,” Louis Shapiro, president of said HSS. “This new location gives us a unique opportunity to create a facility ideal for Westchester county residents who want the unmatched excellence of HSS closer to home.”

“Westchester could not be more pleased to welcome Hospital for Special Surgery to the county. Our team worked hard to make this a reality,” said Robert Astorino, CEO of Westchester County. “HSS and the county are leaders when it comes to providing for quality of life. The new outpatient center is another step forward.”

Westchester County consists of 48 municipalities with a population of close to one million residents; the county seat is the city of White Plains. In terms of household income, Westchester County is the fifth-wealthiest county in New York (after Nassau, Putnam, Suffolk, and Rockland Counties) and is the forty-seventh wealthiest county in the United States. It rates second after New York County in terms of highest median income per person, with a higher concentration of incomes in smaller households.
