Nationwide Children’s Hospital to Build New Facilities

Nationwide Children's Hospital (Columbus, OH, USA) is set to construct two new facilities with an investment of USD 130 million, in a bid to accommodate growth in patient services.

The six-story Livingston Ambulatory Center will include 18,500 m2 of space, and will house ambulatory services such as primary care, dental services, behavioral health, dermatology, adolescent medicine, sports rehabilitation, a center for healthy weight and nutrition, and other rotating clinics. Construction will commence in February 2015 and is budgeted at USD 85 million. The center is planned for the northeast corner of East Livingston Avenue and South Grant Avenue on a plot purchased from Columbus City Schools (CCS; OH, USA).

In addition, the hospital started construction of a new six-story office building, which will span 14,000 m² and involves an investment of USD 45 million. It will include academic offices, which will be relocated from the hospital's main campus to accommodate growth for medical staff, as well as a retail space on a portion of the first floor. A tunnel under Livingston Avenue will provide access to the new building from the main campus. Both new buildings will help to decompress faculty offices and current outpatient clinics, which have outgrown their available space on the hospital’s campus.

Moving selected ambulatory services away from the inpatient hospital will allow them to expand, as well as accommodate growth by other hospital programs in the spaces they vacate. The new facility is expected to have more than 100,000 patient visits annually, and area businesses will benefit from increased exposure to families accessing the new Livingston Ambulatory Center.
