Pedicle Set Screw System Employs Linear Slot Effect

A titanium (Ti) based rod and thoracolumbar pedicle screw system helps surgical treatment of spinal trauma, deformity, and degenerative spinal pathologies.

The Zenius Thoracolumbar Spinal System is a top-loading posterior spinal fixation system, which consists of pedicle screws, rods, setscrews, and a transverse linking mechanism. More...
The system utilizes a dovetail joint setscrew with a reverse trapezoid thread design and a linear slot to increase dramatically holding forces over a traditional (nonslotted) setscrew. Specialized instruments made from surgical grade stainless steel are available for the application and removal of the system implants. The system consists of a universal housing containing a preassembled pedicle screw and setscrew; vertical rods are subsequently placed into the housing, and the setscrews that are tightened onto the rod, thus providing a complete implant assembly.

The system is indicated for skeletally mature patients and is intended to provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments as an adjunct to fusion in the treatment of the following acute and chronic instabilities or deformities of the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine: severe spondylolisthesis (grades 3 and 4) of the L5-S1 vertebra; degenerative spondylolisthesis with objective evidence of neurologic impairment; fracture; dislocation; scoliosis; kyphosis; spinal tumor; and failed previous fusion (pseudarthrosis). The Zenius Thoracolumbar Spinal System is a product of Medyssey Spine (Seoul, Korea), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"The clearance of the Zenius Spinal System rounds out Medyssey Spine's spinal instrumentation portfolio of Thoracolumbar PSF solutions in 5.5 mm, 6.0 mm, and 6.35 mm rod constructs through the Zenius and Novel systems,” said Joseph Jin, vice president of Medyssey Spine. "Medyssey is now investing into building out the orthobiologics and interbody platforms to support our core fusion, dynamic stabilization, and motion preservation systems.”
