Vital-Signs Monitor Also Has Other Uses

A versatile vital-signs, spot-check monitor offers fast blood-pressure readings and wireless connectivity to electronic medical records (EMRs). More...

Spot Vital Signs LXi, manufactured by Welch Allyn (Skaneateles Falls, NY, USA), is a multi-parameter spot-check device that can be customized for use in a variety of clinical settings. The device offers the latest blood pressure, temperature, and SpO2 technology as well as a number of other features, including manual weight, height, respiration rate, and pain level entry; connection to selected digital weight scales; and body mass index (BMI) calculation. The Spot LXi takes accurate blood pressure readings in 15 seconds due to Welch Allyn's proprietary SureBP blood pressure technology. The device can be used on a mobile stand, mounted on a wall, or placed on a desktop.

In addition to capturing accurate vital signs, the spot-check device will offer wired connectivity to EMRs via a universal serial bus (USB) connection or wireless connectivity using a barcode scan from the patient's wristband that links the patient and the data transmitted from the device, reducing transcription errors. The data are then sent directly to the facility's EMR. The device also has a 50-reading memory that allows providers to retrieve previous data, print out the data, or download the data at a later time.

"In today's demanding healthcare environment, providers don't have time to search for multiple pieces of equipment to capture vitals, said Michelle McGrath, group product manager of electronic vital signs at Welch Allyn. They need a single simple and flexible device that can capture data faster, easier, and more reliably. The Spot LXi dramatically reduces the amount of time it takes to take readings and transfer them to records, which means providers have more time to spend with their patients.
