Patient Monitor with Anesthesia Module

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 25 Apr 2001
A new integrated module now enables the CMS and V24/26 series patient monitors of Agilent Technologies Inc. More...
(Palo Alto, CA, USA) to display the Bispectral Index (BIS) measurement of depth of consciousness without the need for a second monitor. The BIS module is the product of Aspect Medical Systems (Newton, MA, USA).

The BIS monitoring system provides clinicians with information that enables them to better assess and manage a patient's level of consciousness wherever anesthetics are administered and provides the precise amount of anesthesia needed by each patient.
Previously, clinicians using an Agilent monitoring system required a stand-alone monitor to view the BIS measurement. With the new module, the BIS and other vital signs are displayed on a single monitor, saving space and reducing costs.

"We believe that the BIS parameter will play a key role in the future of anesthesia monitoring and that it will become a new standard of care,” said Tony Ecock, general manager of Agilent's Patient Monitoring Division.
