New Solutions for Cell Culture Assays

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Dec 2005
The introduction of a 24-well plate and single-well inserts for cell culture assays are designed to support suspension and adherent cell growth and differentiation.

The new offerings also enhance usability in a range of different laboratory environments. More...
Both platforms incorporate track-etched thin film membranes for reliable monolayer formation, microscopically transparent membranes for easy cell visualization, and fluorescent-compatible plastics and membranes.

The 24-well plate is designed to maximize user convenience by including features that maintain assay integrity. The cell culture plate has twice the membrane surface area of other 24-well plates. This enables researchers to utilize greater cell mass, which more closely models cell behavior. The plates are automation-compatible and reduce the risk of monolayer contamination with "footed” membrane plates that remain elevated when unassembled from the feeder tray. Raised-well edges provide for better tape seating, and the teardrop-shaped receiver wells eliminate air bubbles as plates are assembled.

The new hanging cell culture inserts are available in 6-, 12-, and 24-well sizes. Low throughput assays can be performed in the single-well unit. Design features include an off-center insert for easier media addition and removal. Standing inserts are also available.

The new Millicell offerings are from Millipore Corp. (Billerica, MA, USA), a leading provider of products for bioprocess and bioscience.

Combination Therapy Before Surgery Drives Stronger Tumor Reduction in Head and Neck Cancer

Patients with head and neck cancer who are scheduled for surgery often face a waiting period with limited treatment, creating an opportunity to reduce viable tumor burden before the operation.... Read more
