JIB Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Journees Internationales de Biologie (JIB) celebrated its 50th anniversary at its annual meeting in November 2005 in Paris (France). More...
More than 7,800 visitors attended, as well as 1300 conference delegates and 155 exhibitors. International participation was 15%.

The annual event evolved from a meeting in 1955, when a team of hospital pharmacists specializing in analytic biology created the "Dimanches de Lariboisiere” to provide some practical training, particularly technical training. Later, an exhibition was added to the event, allowing manufacturers and distributors of laboratory equipment and reagents to also attend. The new name, Journees Internationales de Biologie, was adopted in the 1980s. Since then, the conference has grown to be the most important European event in medical biology. Each year, new topics are proposed in the scientific program to match technologic and scientific advances.

For the third consecutive year, the JIB has offered a platform to a particular country, to broaden the understanding of health issues in Europe and to compare similarities and differences in European organizations. This year, Italy was the guest of honor. For the first time this year, European associations of laboratory technicians have had their own dedicated space, hosting five associations from various EU countries.

The JIB will hold its annual meeting again in November (8-10) 2006 in Paris at the CNIT Convention Center.
