Internet-Based Services for Lab Managers

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 May 2006
A new Internet-based service enables users in labs to utilize instruments effectively, resolve problems efficiently, avoid unscheduled shutdowns, and make life science and chemical analysis labs more productive.

The portfolio of Intelligent Services, which has been introduced by Agilent Technologies Inc. More...
(Palo Alto, CA, USA), offers lab managers new ways to improve productivity and save money. The platform of services includes Intelligent repair, Intelligent Connections, Intelligent Connections Plus, and Security.

The Intelligent repair service combines standard features of Agilent's extended repair service, such as on-site repair, phone support, and consumables for repair, as well as new capabilities. "Push for Help” enables the company's experts to automatically receive customer contact information, instrument and system information, and real-time instrument status. Online real-time collaboration allows the Agilent experts to remotely diagnose and solve problems in accordance with customer guidelines and security procedures.

The Intelligent Connections service adds software support and standard preventative maintenance. The Basic Asset Report provides each customer with a snapshot of real-time instrument usage and utilization, which indicates exactly when maintenance is needed and whether lab resources are being used effectively.

Intelligent Connections Plus helps labs operating within rigorous quality and regulatory requirements. It adds Agilent's compliance services for operational qualification, performance verification, and re-qualification. Security features include customer-selected access, firewall-friendly infrastructure, and detailed auditing that tracks the user, the duration of the session, and a description of activity.

Agilent Intelligent Services are available on the new Agilent 1200 series Rapid Resolution liquid chromatography (LC) system. Agilent plans to expand Intelligent Services to all their instruments and to selected non-Agilent systems.
