Glycan Markers Predict Crohn's Disease Complications

It includes anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (gASCA), anti-chitobioside carbohydrate antibodies (ACCA), anti-laminariobioside carbohydrate antibodies (ALCA), and anti-mannobioside carbohydrate antibodies (AMCA).

The IBDX panel can be used at onset of the disease and enables prediction of CD in patients months before clinical symptoms appear. Recent studies by researchers at Leuven University hospital (Leuven, Belgium) and Lille University (Lille, France) demonstrated that gASCA, ACCA, and AMCA predict increased severity and complications of CD, such as strictures or fistulas, as well as the need for surgery. There appears to be a correlation between gASCA, ALCA, and AMCA and mutations and genetic variants in innate immunity genes associated with CD.
