One Instrument Measures Both CBC and CRP

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 20 Jul 2006
A compact portable instrument provides simultaneous complete blood count (CBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) analysis from a minute quantity of blood in 4.5 minutes.

A key marker for inflammation, CRP can complement a range of diagnostic markers to monitor infection and direct treatment. More...
A rapid, reliable result for CRP with hematocrit reading by near-patient testing can greatly enhance patient diagnosis, treatment, and recovery time.

The ABX Micros 200, a product of Horiba ABX Diagnostics (Montpellier, France), offers microsampling capabilities for patients being monitored on a regular basis, and for testing neonates including those suffering from sepsis. Results are highly accurate, with excellent linearity and reproducibility. This is achieved through the use of reference methodologies, which are also utilized by the larger instruments within the central laboratory. Impedancemetry counts and identifies cells by volume, and provides CBC readings for red blood cells, hematocrit, platelets, white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes. Photometry quantifies hemoglobin, and immunoturbidimetry is used to measure CRP levels.

Fully automated and with a simple three-button interface (startup, mode analysis selection, shutdown), the analyzer is very easy to use. Single tube operation, integrated reagents, zero maintenance, and no need for centrifugation add to the simplicity of the ABX Micros 200. Together with the new Horiba ABX e-Sat module, a central laboratory can control and monitor the new system wherever it is located. This ensures accuracy and traceability of all results, as well as reagents used, and also enables direct checking of the instrument for quality control purposes.
