Immunoassay Analyzer Offers High Performance

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 14 Aug 2006
A new immunoassay system, which can be used to assess thyroid, fertility, and tumor markers, has been launched in Lisbon (Portugal).

The high-performance system, Au3000i, designed for the measurement of heterogeneous assays, was developed by Olympus Life and Material Science Europa GmbH-Diagnostics (Hamburg, Germany). More...
To mark the product launch, over 120 clinical laboratory scientists from 22 different countries were brought together in Lisbon to view the Au3000i for the first time. In addition to seeing live demonstrations of the new system, participants saw dataWizard, the new Olympus data-management system, in action.

The immunoassay analyzer will enable laboratories to carry out immunoassay testing on the same Olympus hardware and software platform. The random access system uses magnetic micro-particle technology in the solid phase, and measures analyte concentration with highly sensitive chemiluminescence detection. The system has a throughput of 240 tests per hour whatever the mix of one- and two-step assays. Sample volume is from 10-100 µl depending on the analyte. Up to 24 liquid, ready-to-use reagents can be loaded in two different reagent carousels, and the low reagent consumption means reduced costs. Multiple vials can be run to offer maximum flexibility in daily routine testing. Walk-away time is increased by fully automated sample processing capabilities such as pre-treatment, pre-dilution, rerun, and reflex testing. Cuvettes and sample tips can be reloaded without interrupting the analysis.

The Au3000i uses multi-purpose Olympus racks with the Au family software used in the company's clinical chemistry systems. Based on Windows 2000, the software guides the user with pull-down menus and context-related help functions. This reduces training requirements and improves staff efficiency. Clot and level detection systems together with crash prevention ensure that sample integrity is guaranteed. Plug-and-play reagents with a two dimensional barcode ensure safety, easy handling, and economy of use. The kits supply all the reagents as well as all necessary calibrators and controls.

Olympus is developing cardiac, allergy, and anemia assays.

Combination Therapy Before Surgery Drives Stronger Tumor Reduction in Head and Neck Cancer

Patients with head and neck cancer who are scheduled for surgery often face a waiting period with limited treatment, creating an opportunity to reduce viable tumor burden before the operation.... Read more
