Tests Help Determine Hepatitis Infection and Susceptibility

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 01 Dec 2006
Two serologic assays help determine whether a patient has a previous or ongoing hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection or is susceptible to the virus.

The assays are part of a simple-to-use, flexible, and fully automated immunodiagnostic system that provides continuous, random access capabilities for routine and specialty immunodiagnostic testing. More...
Using enhanced chemiluminescence detection technology, the system offers good assay performance, wide dynamic ranges, precision, and sensitivity. Technology called Intellicheck verifies diagnostic checks throughout automated sample and assay processing. Intellicheck also increases the integrity and security of reported patient results and helps to ensure greater confidence and productivity for laboratories that generate these results.

The Vitros anti-HAV total and Vitros anti-HAV IgM assays complete the routine diagnostic hepatitis A, B, and C serologic marker offerings on the Vitros ECi/ECiQ immunodiagnostic system of Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (Raritan, NJ, USA). The assays have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Intellicheck is a proprietary technology developed by Ortho-Clinical.

With over 40 tests, the Vitros ECi/ECiQ system offers assays for thyroid function, reproductive health and fertility, bone metabolism, anemia, oncology, emergency cardiology, and infectious diseases. Consolidating hepatitis tests with other routine immunoassays on a single system allows a laboratory to control costs while improving operational efficiency and labor optimization.

Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics is a provider of diagnostic solutions for the global health care community. Committed to developing tests for early detection or diagnosis of disease, the company brings products to market that provide information and help facilitate better medical decisions.
