Kit Detects 14 Different Cancer Types

A new test kit is able to detect the presence in humans of up to 14 different cancers 84% of the time.

Cancers that can be detected are colon, breast, stomach, liver, rectal, ovarian, cervical, esophageal, thyroid, pancreatic, trophoblastic, and malignant lymphoma. DR-70 can detect many kinds of cancer using a single tube of blood, eliminating the need for costly, multiple tests.

AMDL, Inc. (ADL, Tustin, CA, USA), developer and marketer of tests for the early detection of cancer and other serious diseases, announced that Mercy Bio Technology Co., Ltd. will market DR-70, AMDL's non-invasive cancer blood test kit, in Taiwan.

AMDL is the inventor, developer, and worldwide marketer, through exclusive distribution and non-exclusive agreements, of the DR-70 non-invasive cancer blood test. DR-70 is a valuable tool for physicians in the initial diagnosis of cancer: in non-technical language, levels of DR-70 increase with the progression and stage of a particular cancer. While DR-70 is helpful in diagnosing whether a patient has cancer, the attending physician needs to use other testing methods to determine and confirm the type and kind of cancer involved.

The test provides cost-effective cancer diagnostics: after clinical trials of DR-70 in Canada, China, Germany, Taiwan, and Turkey, it was shown that DR-70 can detect many types of cancer using a single tube of blood, thereby eliminating the need for costly, multiple tests. Furthermore, it is well known by physicians that many patients who have had a colonoscopy and positive biopsy are carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) blood test- negative.

The cancer diagnostics sector estimated to reach US $7.4 Billion by 2009: With such an increasingly prevalent disease, it is not surprising that the overall market for cancer in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) is growing at an annual rate of 13% according to a recent market report from Kalorama Information (Rockville, MD, USA). In 2004, the worldwide market IVDs used on a routine basis was $4.1 billion. But an aging population, along with advancements in technology, will fuel growth in the diagnostics sector to an estimated US$7.4 billion by 2009, the report states. With the expected China approvals of AMDL's DR-70, and continuing sales of AMDL non-proprietary test kits, significant revenue is expected from this rapidly expanding cancer diagnostic sector.
