Ultra-fast photon counting technology provides a superior signal-to-noise ratio for the detection of analytes and lower levels of gene expression.

Using the SpectraMax L luminometer assays can be performed for single-and dual luciferase reporter genes, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), double stranded DNA (dsDNA), aequorin-Ca2+, and luminescence-based enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA).
The system offers the sensitivity, reliability, flexibility, automation options, and validation tools required by today's laboratories.

A product of Molecular Devices Corp. (Sunnyvale, CA, USA), the SpectraMax L, is a next-generation microplate luminometer for flash and glow luminescence assays based on the company's SpectraMax brand microplate reader platform.

The system uses the company's SoftMax Pro software, which provides complete data analysis for more than 120 assay protocols, and operates with SoftMax Pro GxP software for data acquisition, analysis and bioassay validation capabilities in a US Food and Drug Administration Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 11-compliant environment.

According to Joseph Machamer, Molecular Devices' product marketing manager, the system uses accelerated photon counting technology that provides a high signal-to-noise ratio and low crosstalk; in addition, the systems' throughput can be increased to up to 50 plates per batch with the integration of the company's optional StakMax plate stacker.

The SpectraMax L system's next-generation injectors enable better results and more robust performance than current offerings. For example, to prevent precipitation from clogging injector lines, the lines must be rinsed of reagents when the instrument is idle overnight. The system features a unique AutoWash function that can be programmed to rinse the injectors following each use of the instrument and the direction of flow can be reversed so reagents can be recovered before the rinsing is started. Furthermore, the automatic injection counter sends an alert at every 750,000 injections to indicate when minor injector maintenance is due. Finally, high velocity injection eliminates the low-quality data associated with slow mixing for better performance.
