Cellular Disease Biomarker Monitoring Technology

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Mar 2007
A powerful tool identifies and monitors small molecule cellular biomarkers of disease and disease treatment.

Based upon CoulArray technology, the system uses a series of highly efficient coulometric electrochemical cells to specifically monitor metabolically active, small molecule cellular components. More...
Combining the well-known sensitivity and selectivity of electrochemical detection with a powerful data-analysis package, the Metabolomics system enables rapid and sensitive identification and measurement of physiologically relevant biomolecules even in highly complex samples.

To fully understand and appreciate a biologic system requires an understanding of the small organic molecules (anti-oxidants, enzyme co-factors, cellular metabolites, vitamins, etc.) responsible for the maintenance of routine physiologic functions. Changes in the levels of these molecules caused by disease or external stimuli can play an important role in the development or progression of disease and in understanding and measuring adverse drug effects. The Metabolomics system offers the advantage of being able to study a variety of molecules quickly and accurately. In addition, the system can distinguish minute changes in metabolomics patterns and components.

ESA Biosciences, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA, USA) uses its expertise in specialty detection and electrochemistry, combined with components, kits, and reagents, for analytic laboratories, commercial diagnostics laboratories, and the clinical point-of-care setting.

Combination Therapy Before Surgery Drives Stronger Tumor Reduction in Head and Neck Cancer

Patients with head and neck cancer who are scheduled for surgery often face a waiting period with limited treatment, creating an opportunity to reduce viable tumor burden before the operation.... Read more
