Simple Blood Test Predicts Alzheimer's Disease

The novel method uses dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) as a biologic marker to detect Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. DHEA is an endogenous hormone secreted by the adrenal gland.

In its earliest stage, diagnosis of Alzheimer's can be extremely difficult. The new diagnostic test gives physicians the ability to confidently diagnose the condition, predict the effectiveness of current medical treatments, encourage early diagnosis, and facilitate earlier treatments to delay memory loss.

Samaritan Pharmaceuticals (Las Vegas, NV, USA) has been granted a patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for the new test. The company is planning to take the appropriate steps to fulfill patent registration requirements in the following European countries: Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
