IVD Assays for Trypanosoma Antibodies Monitored

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 16 Oct 2007
An unassayed, reactive, external quality control has been developed for in-vitro diagnostic qualitative assays for determination of antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi in human serum or plasma. More...

T. cruzi is a protozoan parasite typically associated with Chagas disease, which is endemic in much of central and South America. It can cause a silent disease or can have serious gastrointestinal or cardiac consequences.

Routine use of the control, which is called Virotrol Chagas, provides the laboratory with the means to monitor the performance of test procedures and assure quality on an ongoing basis. Virotrol Chagas is packaged in tubes for automated test systems. The product is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid that can be sampled in the same manner as a patient sample.

The unity interlaboratory program is available for use with the Virotrol Chagas. Unity real time, a complete data management software system designed to improve the effectiveness of quality control processes, is also available. The Virotrol Chagas liquid stable, third-party control was introduced by Bio-Rad Laboratories (Hercules, CA, USA), a manufacturer and distributor of life-science research products and clinical diagnostics.
