Analog/Digital Mammography Viewers Ease Analog to Digital Transition

Analog/digital mammography viewers have been designed that feature auto-masking, which is the ability to have 5MP screens attached to the alternator right underneath prior images, making it easier for radiologist to compare.

In response to the shift to digital images in mammography and the need for a way to compare the prior images effectively, Karmanos Cancer Center (Detroit, MI, USA) has installed five Rollux D analog/digital mammography viewers, developed by Broadwest Corp. More...
(New York, NY, USA).

The Karmanos Cancer Center was designated by the U.S. National Cancer Institute as one of the best cancer centers in the United States. Due to the growth of its clients, the institute decided to develop a new radiology department. While designing the plan, they looked at a variety of vendors for solutions to streamline and update the radiology department.

When reviewing their options for the transition between analog and digital viewing in mammography, it was agreed that Broadwest offered the most cost-effective and efficient solution. "As we start to move towards a digital and paperless imaging department the Rollux D provided a better transitional workflow,” said Donald Herring, manager of Radiology Services and Programs.

One of the largest concerns in the transition to digital mammography is workflow. "The workflow for the radiologist with the Rollux D has been incredible. With the foot pedal and the techs setting the film masking for each patient the radiologist is not wasting time with making alternator adjustments as well as reviewing the digital images,” said Mr. Herring. "The Rollux D has become one our best decisions because of ability to easily go from film only to holding the digital 5MP monitors. This feature allowed us to customize and dictate our own workflow and implementation timeline.”

Broadwest provides a range of creative viewing devices that have improved the practice of film and digital interpretation worldwide. Broadwest products have helped set the standards later incorporated by the American College of Radiology and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Mammography Quality Standards Act for mammography film viewing.
