DR Systems Provide Enhanced Soft Tissue Imaging

IDC (Imaging Dynamics Company, Ltd; Calgary, AB, Canada), a developer in the rapidly growing market for digital radiography (DR), presented its X-Series Digital Radiography (DR) systems at the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA) 2008 annual meeting and exposition in Denver, CO, USA, in July 2008. IDC demonstrated its modular DR systems featuring its advanced charged coupled device (CCD) technology and latest Magellan software.

According to AHRA president, Jeffrey A. Palmucci, "Digital radiography is an incredibly efficient technology, eliminating many steps for technologists. In addition, DR addresses the increasing pressure from the government to reduce waste and use of chemicals while providing a safer environment and a better culture for hospital staff.”

IDC's X-Series technology represents the third generation of its digital radiography system, with installations in nearly 40 countries. The IDC X-Series CCD-based imaging detectors: X3C and X4C are digital alternatives to conventional film-based imaging. The technology provides the following advances: higher sensitivity and amplified dynamic range; lateral overflow drain to eliminate saturation artifacts; enhanced soft tissue imaging without compromising bone detail; and a significant increase in imaging performance.

The worldwide market for digital radiography is expected to grow to US$844.2 million by the year 2010, according to a report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. (San Jose, CA, USA). "IDC technology is in the sweet spot of the trend toward digitizing the radiology department,” commented IDC president and CEO Tom Boon. "By using proven, patented CCD technology that efficiently produces high quality images, IDC delivers all the well-documented benefits of upgrading to DR at a low cost of acquisition and ownership.”

IDC's X-Series of direct capture technology replaces conventional film-based X-rays and provides a cost-effective alternative to cassette based film or computed radiography (CR) systems. Each IDC DR system provides high-resolution radiographic images in the digital format required for today's electronic medical record networks, all without the use of film, environmentally harmful chemicals, cassettes, or expensive imaging plates.
