Laptop Doppler Ultrasound Technology Provides Sophisticated Cardiology Tools

Users no longer need to sacrifice performance for portability in medical imaging technology because a new laptop Doppler ultrasound system combines sophisticated features before only found in heavy cart-based systems. More...

In spite of its compact size, the unit offers technologies such as Echo-Boost, left ventricular opacification (LVO) with stress echocardiography, TTQA, ultra-wideband nonlinear (UWN)+ contrast imaging, and natural touch elastography.

The M9 ultrasound system has the added advantage of providing all these features at the bedside, making it a suitable shared-service solution for use within multiple clinical settings. At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), held in Vienna March 2014, Mindray (Shenzhen, P. R. China) launched the M9, its portable ultrasound system. ECR 2014 president, Prof. Valentin Sinitsyn presented the M9 to a large audience at the Congress, representing the official global launch of the laptop-style Doppler system.

Commenting on the launch, Sarah Li, general manager of Mindray’s ultrasound business unit, said, “The M9 is based on a completely new and highly innovative platform, including its advanced CPU [central processing unit] hardware, its multi-channel HDR [high dynamic range] flow signal processing with improved transmission, and its faster calculations and enhanced control. Furthermore Mindray’s patented 3T technology is now more powerful than ever in the M9 thanks to a single crystal, which enables deeper penetration and enhances the diagnostic experience.”

The M9’s ergonomic profile provides user comfort and enhanced procedural efficiency while reducing repetitive actions. A user-centric interface including a 15-inch light-emitting diode (LED), high-definition monitor, and an integrated adjustable-height trolley enables practical and efficient workflow, providing a very streamlined operation.

For cardiologists, the M9’s capabilities enable LVO with stress (exercise- or pharmacologically-induced) echocardiography. This enhances the discrimination between myocardial tissue and blood pool, providing better visualization of the endocardial surface. The Stress Echo package is supported by a flexible reporting system that can be optimized for individual needs. M9’s portability makes it a suitable solution for ventilated patients in intensive care because of patient positioning and compliance.

David Yin, Mindray International general manager, who was present at the launch, said, “We were honored to have ECR president Prof. Sinitsyn unveiling our M9 portable ultrasound. Rich in innovation, the M9 addresses the most critical issues faced within ultrasound scanning and shows how Mindray’s technologies can raise industry standards to a whole new level.”
