New Family of CZT-Based SPECT Cameras Launched

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 15 Jun 2015
A radiation technology company has launched a new family of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) cameras, based on Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride (CZT) detectors.

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) can use the turnkey off-the-shelf camera systems and integrate them into nearly all existing nuclear medicine systems. More...
Based on clinical data from thousands of patients, the image quality, efficiency, sensitivity, and specificity of CZT-based SPECT cameras was found to be superior to that of standard scintillator cameras. The new cameras are expected to shorten the time it takes OEMs to integrate a new camera, and save on costs.

Kromek (Sedgefield, County Durham, UK) developed the eVance cameras and eV-CZT detector, which can improve diagnostic performance, and reduce radiation exposure, in order to improve market adoption of the new technology. Kromek has already shipped a Small Field of View camera for diagnosing Thyroid disease.

Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek, said, “Kromek’s ability to manufacture detector solutions at an economic cost will allow mainstream adoption over the next few years, which promises to enable a fundamental shift in the market allowing better images and more accurate detection, with lower energy doses and faster cycle times. The superior performance of our eVance cameras is compelling, and is sure to be a platform with a substantially long product lifecycle.”
