Carestream Enters Radiography/Fluoroscopy Sector with Two Systems

Carestream has entered the radiography/fluoroscopy market with two new imaging systems and an optional flat panel detector that can also be used for general radiography.

The systems can be used to perform fluoroscopy contrast exams associated with a radiography image, and specialized contrast procedures that record radiography sequences, fluoroscopy, and interventional procedures.

The DRX-Excel and DRX-Excel Plus systems are configured with a tube in one system, and a table, and were developed by Carestream (Rochester, NY, USA) The systems use Carestream's X-Factor technology that allows a DRX detector to be shared with a radiofrequency (R/F) room or devices, and other DRX mobile or room-based radiography systems. The DRX-Excel system can also be configured as a conventional R/F system, with Computed Radiography (CR) cassettes, or with DRX-1 detectors, and an image intensifier.

The systems have an ergonomic design, and a source-to-image detector distance of 180 cm. The table weight capacity of the DRX-Excel Plus is 265 kg and it can be tilted, lowered, or raised. The table weight limit of the DRX-Excel is 200 kg. The table is fixed but can be tilted for fluoroscopy exams. Both systems have a positioning pedal, and a remote control to move the table within the room. The systems offer four-way float top table movement; and the user can stitch multiple images together.

Carestream currently markets a range of diagnostic imaging systems worldwide. The new systems will be sold in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and other countries, while only the DRX-Excel Plus will be available in the US.

Diana L. Nole, president, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream, said, "We are expanding our radiography leadership to include fluoroscopy, which is performed by many of the hospitals and imaging centers we serve. This is a natural extension for both our company and our customers, and enables healthcare providers to benefit from purchasing these systems from a single supplier with a strong reputation for outstanding service and support."
