Integration of Cloud-Based Mobile Technology into Portable Ultrasound Devices Announced

A leading medical image management provider has announced the integration of their web-based medical image sharing, collaboration, and routing platform into portable ultrasound devices.

The cloud-based platform will enable clinicians to share image information directly from the mobile ultrasound devices to speed up referrals, and consultations with referring physicians for example.

The agreement between Trice Imaging (Del Mar, CA, USA) and FUJIFILM SonoSite (Bothell, WA, USA) covers the integration of Trice Imaging’s Tricefy technology into SonoSite’s iViz portable ultrasound device. More...
The iViz is currently pending US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance, after receiving the CE Marking in Europe.

Under an existing agreement the two companies used a similar solution for a project in Morocco. The project included the use of mobile ultrasound units and a 3-G network for wireless transmission of ultrasound exams to clinicians, reducing the time required for a diagnosis from 14 days to less than 24 hours, and a reduction in costs per patient.
