Software for Contrast Media Delivery

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 23 Jan 2004
New software for contrast media delivery during computed tomography angiography (CTA) is designed to significantly improve visualization at the bolus peak. More...
The software has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called OptiBolus, the software manages the contrast media injection, lengthening the duration of contrast enhancement, providing uniform vascular enhancement, and increasing contrast media utility. OptiBolus, the product of Mallinckrodt, Inc. (St. Louis, MO, USA), is used with the company's Optiray Ultraject prefilled contrast media syringes, designed to improve safety and increase efficiency. Mallinckrodt notes that its CT 9000 ADV power injector provides the only fully integrated contrast media and delivery system when integrated with the company's OptiBolus and Optiray syringes.

"OptiBolus represents a quantum technological advancement in the way that contrast is delivered to the patient,” said Scott Hollander, vice president, marketing, for Mallinckrodt Imaging. "It is not a subtle alteration to an existing product but a revolutionary new approach to CTA contrast dosing.”
