A U.S. More...
patent, the seventh, has issued for "Detector Array with Variable Gain Amplifiers for Use in a Laser Imaging Apparatus,” developed by Imaging Diagnostic Systems (Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA).

The computed tomography laser mammography (CTLM) system is designed as an adjunct to mammography and for clinical examination to aid in the detection of breast abnormalities. The system utilizes laser technology and proprietary and patented algorithms to create 3-D cross-sectional images of the breast. The procedure is noninvasive and does not subject the patient to radiation or require breast compression.

"This patent is significant because it deals with the real-world application of optical imaging across a wide spectrum of patients,” said Robert H. Wake, director of engineering at Imaging Diagnostic Systems. The company is seeking premarket approval for its system from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
