Speech Recognition System for Radiologists

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 01 Feb 2005
A new innovative speech recognition system has been designed specifically for radiology medical reporting. More...
Radiologists use the system's front-end speech recognition capability to dictate, edit, and authenticate (electronically sign) a report in one session.

The SpeechQ for Radiology can be used as a conventional digital dictation system; editing the recognized text automatically updates each clinician's speech recognition profile, improving speech recognition accuracy. The system was developed by MedQuist (Mount Laurel, NJ, USA; www.medquist.com).

"Finalized reports created with SpeechQ for Radiology are often available to the patient's physicians and caregivers within minutes after a radiographic exam is completed, instead of hours--or days--with traditional methods,” said Terry Cameron, senior vice president of marketing and business development at MedQuist. "It creates very accurate text after only a few minutes of the physician enrollment process, and the recognition rate quickly improves with ongoing use to maximize the radiologist's productivity.”

MedQuist is a provider of electronic medical transcription, health information, and document-management products and services.
