Integrated Imaging Communication Software

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Apr 2005
A new unique software system enables C-arms to act as an integrated communication center in the operating room. More...
Its web-based concept combines the functions of online viewing of the image data generated by the C-arm with web-based picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) and image distribution functionalities, ensuring seamless integration into healthcare information technology (IT) structures.

The WebPort, developed by Ziehm Imaging (Nuremberg, Germany), is designed to be used with Ziehm C-arms. Via intranet or Internet, this system provides access to all images, using any MS Windows workstation. In combination with the intelligent browser technology that supports easy image retrieval and postprocessing, the WebPort provides a bi-directional web access in the operating room and image data access.

This system has a so-called "prefetch” functionality, additionally providing high-speed access to the entire image archive of the hospital (PACS, radiology information systems [RIS], hospital information systems [HIS]). The software enables intra-operative simultaneous modality viewing, including all images from typical x-rays to three-dimensional (3D) visualization. It also allows the management of pre-operative and intra-operative planning. The system provides rapid access and fast image acquisition and analysis. As a result, this integrative concept benefits the user in terms of efficiency, improved patient care, and cost savings.
