The CT system, developed by Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany), known for its capabilities including its z-Sharp technology that doubles the scanner's data acquisition capacity, is an extremely fast and sophisticated 64-slice CT system. Judges in the eighth annual MDEA competition recognized the multi-slice system's exceptional engineering and innovative design, identifying it as "a paradigm shift in CT scanning technology.”

"This distinction, along with the hundreds of Sensation 64 systems installed worldwide, is testament to our continued commitment to the most advanced and effective imaging technologies that benefit both clinicians and patients alike,” stated Bappa Choudhury, vice president, CT Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "We are honored to be recognized in such a prestigious competition as the Medical Design of Excellence Awards.”

Sponsored by European Medical Device Manufacturer (EMDM) publisher Cannon Communications, the MDEA program honors design and engineering achievements within the medical community. This year's entries were assessed by a panel of judges based on several criteria including user, patient, and business advantages, design and functionality, and contribution to the advancement of healthcare.
