PACS, 3D Imaging Software Integration

Posted on 17 Oct 2005
Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium) and Fujifilm Medical Systems USA Inc., (Stamford, CT, USA) have renewed their agreement to integrate Barco's three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging software with Fuji's Synapse picture archiving communications system (PACS). More...
Institutions using Synapse version 3.1 or greater will be able to take advantage of the latest version of Barco's Voxar 3D visualization and analysis software. Fuji chose to upgrade to Barco's new version of Voxar 3D because of the seamless integration into its PACS.

Synapse users will benefit from Barco's user-friendly Voxar 3D software, version 5.1, and the new optional clinical application module for quantitative vessel analysis, VesselMetrix. With this integration, radiologists are able to switch to Voxar 3D in one simple click of the mouse, giving them seamless access to sophisticated 3D visualization and analysis toolsets designed to improve productivity and workflow efficiency.

Barco and Fuji provide one-click integration that presents radiologists with access to Voxar 3D from anywhere they access Synapse, and at any point in time within their diagnostic cycle. Without any manual processing, users can easily consult their 3D images and save them back to the PACS, allowing them to report significant images faster. "With the integration of Barco's Voxar 3D version 5.1 into Synapse, we can offer our customers a more effective and intuitive way to manage their volumes of complex image data,” said Bob Cooke, Fuji's executive director of marketing, Network Systems. "Synapse users will be able to rapidly access advanced MPR and 3D tools with a simple mouse click, without having to disrupt or exit from their regular workflow.”

Barco's new version of Voxar 3D integrates a number of technology improvements created to reduce reading time, enhance workflow, and improve performance and productivity. In addition, specular lighting effects improve depth perception and surface detail to provide enhanced views of patient anatomy. VesselMetrix, Barco's new optional vessel analysis module, provides a clinical protocol-based workflow for quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) studies, including stenosis, stent and stent graft planning, and stent graft surveillance.
