Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) and Ingalls Health System (Harvey, IL, USA) have signed an agreement through which Siemens will provide Ingalls Health System with a long-term information technology (IT) managed services system. More...

The system encompasses the outsourcing of Ingalls' IT operations, the implementation of Soarian, Siemens' next generation workflow-driven health information solution (HIS), and the establishment of a Workflow Innovation Center at Ingalls to facilitate the streamlining of clinical operations. The IT system was developed in consultation with Siemens' Global Services organization, a professional and managed services business unit.

"Ingalls' alliance with Siemens and the implementation of Soarian provides a roadmap for the future,” said Vince Pryor, chief financial officer and corporate vice president for finance, Ingalls Health System. "We are looking forward to turning our vision of streamlined, efficient, and integrated healthcare into a reality with a leading-edge IT solution that benefits our patients, physicians, and employees.”

By outsourcing its IT operations to Siemens, Ingalls will benefit from Siemens' expertise in complicated healthcare and IT infrastructures. Siemens will work with Ingalls to create operational and financial efficiencies, maximize its investment in IT resources, and achieve its strategic business goals. IT employees at Ingalls will continue to serve the health system on-site, but will be employed by Siemens. As a result, Ingalls and Siemens employees will work collaboratively to deliver advanced IT systems created to meet the organization's specific needs. Furthermore, a strategic IT governance overseen by Ingalls and Siemens executives has been established to make sure that the IT strategy remains aligned with Ingalls' business objectives.

"Implementing the complete Soarian solution, coupled with the Workflow Innovation Center, will enable Ingalls to realize--and measure--improved efficiencies and care coordination across the entire system,” Mr. Miller said. "Soarian not only coordinates the many simultaneous and complex processes of healthcare, it anticipates them. Through its automated workflow-oriented design, Soarian intuitively delivers information when and where it's needed most.”
