PACS Upgrade Includes New View Station

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 23 Jun 2006
An upgrade has been developed on an existing picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) to include a view station system, which adds digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) and generic "hot shares” ability to create CDs or DVDs from other DICOM sources. More...
The generic "hot share” allows any data to be recorded onto the CD/DVD drive.

ODS Medical (Mendota Heights, MN, USA), a developer and marketer of PACS, has developed the V2.5 upgrade release for its PACScomm system. The View Station extends the utility of the PACScomm system to provide a convenient interface to CD-creating systems in addition to DICOM environments. Typically, workstations and other applications can create CD content but rely on the operator to manually record the information and require the operator to hand-write the label using a marker pen or to make an adhesive label for the CD. The View Station provides a configurable record job share folder to be used as a mechanism for the PACScomm to capture and automatically record and label CDs.

Other features of the system include complete support for Rimage thermal robotics and printers, support for DVD Dual layer media (8.5GB capacity), and an automated workflow assistant that allows DICOM images to be sent to the PACScomm and automatically forwarded to other DICOM stations, enhancing workflow.

Another feature of the system is an enhanced user interface for PACScomm Lite, a newer, low cost system with manual disk feed for CD/DVD burning applications for the low volume requirements of small hospitals and imaging centers, and outlying locations affiliated with large institutions. The system includes a personal computer (PC) server and Elesys Duet 400 DVD/CD recorder/printer.

The upgrade also provides completed support of Elesys Duet 400 drive/printer to allow for more effective control of interface between drive and PACScomm software. The Duet 400 is the new record and print module for all PACScomm inkjet models including PACScomm I and II, as well as PACScomm Lite.
