Software Improves QC Data Management

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 Jul 2006
New software is designed to improve the effectiveness of quality-control (QC) data management in the clinical laboratory. More...
The system can be easily integrated with existing laboratory information systems (LIS) and laboratory instruments to merge quality control data management into one platform.

Unity Real Time was introduced by Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (Hercules, CA, USA), a manufacturer and distributor of clinical diagnostics and life science research products. Unity Real Time facilitates compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements and helps meet quality demands of the clinical laboratory.

Providing high-quality statistical process control with comprehensive audit trails, the software facilitates run-time and supervisory data review, offers advanced charts and reports for data analysis, and monitors ongoing performance of QC rules with analytic goal options. It also enables participation in the Unity Interlaboratory Program to compare laboratory QC results against peer groups in the clinical diagnostics industry.

Unity Real Time can be used with the Westgard Advisor add-on module to automatically recommend and implement optimal QC rules for each test. By establishing proper quality control design, the module helps the lab to decrease false rejections and attain desired quality goals with the highest error-detection rate possible. This reduces desensitization to false error flags, and ultimately saves time and money by eliminating unnecessary troubleshooting and repeat testing.
