New Digital Ultrasound Scanners Introduced

Expanding its ultrasound product line, Shimadzu Corp. More...
(Kyoto, Japan) has introduced two new digital ultrasound scanners. Based on proprietary digital architecture, both systems offer extremely high-speed digital image processing and other advanced features in a small-footprint console.

The SDU-2200 is a general-purpose system with applications in abdominal, pelvic, fetal, vascular, and cardiac imaging. A quad-receive digital beamformer and high-line density imaging provide superior resolution and high frame rates. The SDU-2200 supports Shimadzu's TrueVision high-density, broad bandwidth probes in convex, linear, and phased array sector configurations. The SDU-1200 is a special purpose system with similar applications, including urologic use. A dual-receive digital beamformer and high-line density image formation are standard in the basic configuration. The system supports TrueVision linear and convex probes.

The small footprint design makes both systems suitable for use in emergency departments, surgical suites, and small patient exam rooms where space is limited. Two features, Application Specific Imaging (ASI) and patient specific optimization, are achieved by a single keystroke. Shimadzu says the new scanners were created by borrowing technologies from the company's magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) systems.
