Outsourcing CT Scans Improves Effectiveness, Consistency

Remarkable progress in computed tomography (CT) has provided new opportunities for advanced cardiovascular applications. More...
As this new technology makes its way into clinical practice, radiologists and cardiologists are finding new challenges related to workflow and post-processing of complex data sets, along with core competency issues.

Q3D (Marietta, GA, USA), a division of Quantum Radiology, is a centralized three-dimensional (3D) laboratory that enables multislice CT centers to outsource their post-processing requirements for improved efficiency, consistency, and profitability.

Q3D provides cardiac and vascular post-processing services via a proprietary, dedicated high-speed network. Data sets are electronically submitted to Q3D's centralized 3D lab and post-processed digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) images are provided back to the multislice center via the network. Q3D reduces the physician time per study, provides consistent high-quality post-processing, and eliminates the need to invest in expensive workstations.

According to Q3D's Jay Cinnamon, M.D., a specialist in sophisticated 3D imaging, "High quality post-processing is the key to efficiency, productivity, consistency and accuracy.” Adam Fogle, Q3D's executive director, stressed, "This post-processing solution helps practices economically launch a 3D imaging program by avoiding substantial start-up costs related to the equipment, staffing, and training needed to establish an internal centralized 3D Lab.”

Q3D manages hundreds of studies each month for clients. Joseph P. Finizio, M.D., president & CEO of Radiology Imaging Associates, serving the U.S. states Virginia and Maryland, noted the benefits of working with Q3D. "A highly seasoned group of physicians and technologists at Quantum Radiology produce the most exquisite 3D renderings, and turnaround time of cases is provided in a very efficient manner. This is a top notch provider that uses the most advanced workstations and leading edge technology to produce reconstructions of consistently high quality and accuracy.”
