(Palo Alto, CA, USA) has been ranked first in the industry in overall service performance by the ServiceTrak 2006 survey report on radiation oncology accelerators, published by IMV, Ltd. (Greenbelt, MD, USA), a research company that analyzes service trends in various medical technology sectors and rates manufacturers' performance on the basis of telephone interviews with customers.

Varian ranked first in the majority of service attributes covered by this year's survey. Moreover, the company's scores exceeded the industry averages for 31 of the 34 parameters measured.

Varian took the top rating in the following service categories: overall service performance; overall satisfaction with the manufacturer; effectiveness in resolving problems; probability of purchasing again from this manufacturer; availability of replacement parts; system installation process; and training. The company also scored above all competitors on these system performance parameters: system performance meets expectations; reliability of hardware; reliability of software; system integration for therapy planning; and system ease of use.

"We are proud of our performance on so many parameters that are vitally important to our customers,” said Kolleen Kennedy, vice president of customer support services for Varian's Oncology Systems business. "Enhancing our customer support services has been a major thrust for us over the last year, and it is great to have this feedback from an independent research organization to confirm that our efforts are making a difference. We aim to provide unsurpassed support in every category, so our customers' clinical teams can focus on patient care.”

Varian Medical Systems is a leading manufacturer of medical technology for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and radiosurgery. The company is also a supplier of x-ray tubes and digital image detectors for imaging in medical, scientific, and industrial applications.
