A scheduling and management reporting system integrates time-sensitive information for cardiology, radiology, surgery, and other patient-care departments.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) presented its Scheduling for Cardiology system on March 26, 2007, at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) 2007, held in New Orleans, LA, USA. More...
The module, a web-enabled scheduling system for resources management within cardiovascular departments, has been designed to be easily configurable to multiple, persona-based workflows.

Scheduling for Cardiology's web-based architecture provides viewing and management of resource availability from any point of access to the hospital network. The system effectively allows multiple departments to leverage the secure infrastructure to streamline system-wide scheduling.

Scheduling for Cardiology integrates with the Agfa Scheduling system, an electronic appointment scheduler for cardiology, radiology, surgery, and other patient-care departments. To ensure maximum user-friendliness, the entire Agfa Scheduling suite design has been based on extensive customer usability studies and evaluations, the latest Cooper design guidelines, and the most recent software development technologies.

Practically, this means that its design reduces the number of clicks required to complete a task and the whiteboard function provides complex state and resource utilization information International Healthcare Enterprise- (IHE)-compliant systems such as hospital information systems (HIS) improve efficiency and help reduce redundancies. Data needs to be entered only once to be available to all authorized care providers.

"We provide Scheduling for Cardiology as part of our commitment to optimize the utilization of healthcare facilities and staff in a patient-centric, configurable solution,” said Mike LaChance, vice president, Agfa HealthCare Global Cardiovascular Solutions. "Agfa HealthCare combines its deep experience in secure networks and clinical know-how to provide the most flexible, rules-based scheduling solution possible.”

In addition to facilitating real time efficiencies, Agfa HealthCare's scheduling systems support decision-making with management reports. Utilization statistics are viewed and manipulated with an intuitive report generator. "With procedural expense rising and reimbursement rates declining, Agfa Scheduling for Cardiology addresses hospital administrators' need for powerful decision-making tools they can trust,” said Lisa Braunreuther, Agfa HealthCare executive director, Cardiovascular Solutions Americas. "The cardiology department will benefit from gained efficiencies in workflow, reduced inaccuracies, and superior resource allocation.”
