Carestream Health Begins Worldwide Operations

The Onex (Toronto, Canada) acquisition of Kodak's Health Group has closed on schedule. More...
Carestream Health, Inc. (Rochester, NY, USA), has now started officially operating as an independent company with more than 8,100 employees serving tens of thousands of customers in 150 countries worldwide.

With nearly US$2.5 billion in annual sales, Carestream Health is one of the world's leading health imaging and information technology (IT) systems companies, offering a comprehensive range of conventional and digital systems to medical, dental, molecular imaging systems, and non-destructive testing customers.

The company originated as a business unit within Eastman Kodak Co. (Rochester, NY, USA), and brings from its former owner a proud history of innovation, more than 110 years' experience in health imaging, and over 1,000 patents in digital and film imaging and information technology. Carestream Health will continue to use the Kodak brand with its products. It now owns all former Health Group sub-brands such as Carestream, DirectView, Softdent, Industrex, X-Sight, and PracticeWorks.

Carestream Health provides systems that assist customers with every step of the migration path to a fully digital workflow. The company--through its Digital Capture Solutions group--is a leading provider of digital x-ray capture systems, and is the only company that manufactures both computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR) products. Nearly two out of five CR systems sold in the United States and Canada are from Carestream Health, and its share of the DR market is growing rapidly.

The company's Healthcare Information Solutions (HIS) group provides fully integrated IT workflow systems that integrate images and patient information for processing, diagnosis, reporting, sharing, billing, and storage and management of departmental workflow. Its picture archiving communications system (PACS), radiology information systems (RIS), and information management solutions (IMS) products and consulting services help healthcare providers redesign workflow, enhance productivity, improve quality, and transition to a fully digital environment.

Carestream Health also holds the No. 1 position in the $3.5 billion market for medical film products that includes film-based radiology systems; digital laser imaging systems for printing patient medical images; and mammography systems for detecting breast cancer.

Another important business--the Molecular Imaging Systems (MIS) group--develops and markets high-performance digital imaging systems, imaging agents, film, and accessories for the life science research and drug discovery/development markets.
