PACS Enhancements Include a PET/CT Fusion Module

A dual-mode viewing application included with a PACS (picture archiving communication system) provides rapid performance and an intuitive interface for users. More...

Striking new features for InteleViewer PACS are freehand and volume region-of-interest (ROI) measurements, orthogonal measurement, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), thumbnail tabs for easy access to comparison studies, ability to save a study using Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Presentation State, and real-time cine support for cardiac applications. To enhance its fast performance across wide area network (WAN), InteleViewer's software designers have added speed enhancements to its streaming capabilities to manage the ever-increasing size of imaging studies.

At this year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA'07) meeting, to be held in November 2007, in Chicago, IL, USA, Intelerad (Montreal, Canada) will also be previewing InteleViewer's computed tomography/positron emission tomography (CT/PET) fusion module, which allows anatomic detail from CT acquisitions to be augmented with metabolic information from PET images. In addition, InteleViewer's maximum intensity projection (MIP) capabilities will also be previewed. Both modules are due to be released mid-2008.

New for IntelePACS is its Report Generation and Distribution module. For teleradiology practices that do not use a radiology information system (RIS), IntelePACS now handles the entire radiologist and transcriptionist workflow, including a reporting worklist, digital dictation, integration with voice recognition, report generation with templates, report sign-off, distribution of reports using HL7 messages, postscript printing, fax sending, and e-mail alerts.

An important workflow booster for IntelePACS is its new Roaming User Profiles module, included with every IntelePACS installation. Roaming User Profiles allows an organization to offer its users multiple ‘user profiles' tailored to their different working situations that will roam with them across different sites within the organization or even between different IntelePACS installations. Users will be able to create customized profiles for use at the hospital, the clinic, and at home that fit their preferences and requirements, including number of monitors, display preferences, and layout protocols.

IntelePACS 3-5-1 features an optimized RIS gateway functionality. Using a redundant RIS strategy that functions across wide area networks, IntelePACS RIS gateways use automatic failover mechanisms to take fault tolerance and load balancing to the next level.

In continued support for IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) and to improve clinical workflow, IntelePACS now handles DICOM Structured Reports so that ultrasound tech notes and other clinical applications data such as vascular, colonoscopy, nuclear medicine and cardiology data can be displayed within InteleViewer.
