PACS/RIS Provides Instant Access to Clinical Data

By Dan Gueron, New Media Director
Posted on 17 Dec 2007
The advanced workflow design focusing on the integration of RIS/PACS/Reporting information (radiology information system/picture archiving and communications system) and image management has been streamlined into a single flow from start to finish. More...

The workflow engine of the new Impax Suites was recently presented at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, held in Chicago, IL, USA, November 25, 2007. Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of information technology- (IT)-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging systems, reported that Impax 6.4 technology represents the continuing evolution of the successful Impax series of products currently installed at over 1,700 sites worldwide.

The complex demands of advancing technology are eased with the release of new visualization and navigation tools for large volume studies (computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging [CT/MR]), with complex multi-series review. The Impax 6.4 system also focuses on bringing disparate information to the radiologists' desktop, irrespective of the source.

New to Impax 6.4 is a redesigned clinical information page that provides instant access to clinical data during the image review; embedded reporting tools for more productive voice enabled communication with ED and dictation solutions; and Impax SmartSeek, a context-driven URL-based query model to support information searches.

Combined with Impax RIS and a suite of integrated clinical applications for advanced image processing (including virtual colonoscopy, PET (positron emission tomography)/CT registration fusion, and advanced measurement and templating) Impax 6.4 provides a single integrated IT system that allows radiologists to manage their complete workflow, from protocoling to final reading.

"Agfa HealthCare is devoted to improving product efficiency and usability for its customers,” stated Erkan Akyuz, Agfa HealthCare's chief technology officer. "Our commitment to improved healthcare delivery is represented across Agfa HealthCare's entire portfolio of Impax Suites. With a focus on varying healthcare segments, Agfa HealthCare has created a series of HealthCare IT Suites based on the Impax platform, where each modular solution leverages the flexibility, experience and ingenuity Agfa HealthCare is known for.”
