Radiation Therapy Integrated with Medical Record

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 04 Jul 2001
New software called IMRT (intensity modulated radiation therapy) OpenSuite adds electronic medical record (EMR) capability to any radiotherapy system or equipment and can easily be integrated with core hospital business applications such as registration, scheduling, and billing, thereby streamlining the therapy process.

IMRT uses special computer technology to deliver radiation in the same 3-D shape as the tumor it is targeting, thereby minimizing the risk of destroying adjacent healthy tissue. More...
Because of this, IMRT may augment or replace conventional radiation therapy for some forms of cancer. OpenSuite streamlines the setup, verification, delivery, and documentation of the complex IMRT treatment as well as documenting it in the cancer patient's electronic medical record. Designed to improve clinical quality and administrative efficiency, OpenSuite can be easily connected to other healthcare data systems, image systems, or oncology-specific devices.

OpenSuite was developed by Impac Medical Systems, Inc. (Mountain View, CA, USA). The company specializes in the development of practice management, electronic medical record, image-management, and decision-support software. Its products have been installed in more than 1,400 cancer centers in 45 countries worldwide.
