Storage Solution for Digital Images Worldwide

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 19 Feb 2003
A new digital image storage system will allow healthcare providers anywhere in the world to send and receive digital medical images over the Internet to their desktops. More...

Called InDex Web, the DICOM-compatible system can transmit digital images from ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine, and cardiology to radiologists, referring physicians, and peers. Service is available around the clock and from any location. The images are permanently archived at redundant data centers, which can be accessed for future use. The web application is hosted at the E/Solutions Center of Sprint, the worldwide communications company, in Denver (CO, USA). The system utilizes Sprint's virtual private network (VPN) for security purposes.

"Sprint and InSiteOne are helping to connect medical imaging professionals more quickly to digital images regardless of their physical location to assist doctors and the patients in their care,” said Paul Dandrow, vice president, InSite One, Inc. (Wallingford, CT, USA), which developed the InDex Web. The company offers hospitals, imaging centers, and physician group practices versatile, fast, affordable, and secure methods for onside and offsite storage and access of radiologic images.
