New Technology in Portable Vital Signs Monitor

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 02 Apr 2003
A new vital signs monitor incorporates motion artifact extraction that ensures fast, accurate blood pressure determinations under challenging conditions and for neonatal or adult patients.

The monitor is designed for a variety of setting, including emergency response and subacute care areas, and can be configured either as a spotcheck or continuous monitor, eliminating the need for additional equipment. More...
The monitor can also be configured with Masimo SET pulse oximetry, designed to be accurate during periods of motion and low perfusion. Additional parameters can be monitored with the SureTemp thermometry for fast oral temperatures and by alternate pulse oximetry technologies, such as Nellcor's OxiMax, to meet the standardization practices of hospitals. The monitor, called CAS 740, is the product of CAS Medical Systems, Inc. (Branford, CT, USA; www.casmed.com).

"We are developing distribution in several marketplaces for the 740, including both emergency response settings and sub-acute care areas. CAS has a long history as a market leader in the EMS market and initial responses to our new product have been extremely positive,” said Louis P. Scheps, president and CEO of CAS Medical Systems.
