Software Aids Image Analysis in Labs

By Kodak Scientific Imaging Systems
Posted on 05 Sep 2000
A new software program can help laboratorians manage repetitive image analysis, often involved in reading electrophoresis gels and blots, colony counting, and inspecting microtiter assays and arrays. More...
The program makes it easy to define and analyze bands or specific regions of interest in digital images and to annotate, database, and export images for further analysis or presentation.

An Ellipse Selection tool available with the software is useful for colony counting and dot blot analysis, while a Save Template feature simplifies the ability to repeatedly analyze standard gel or blot formats. More than 30 new filters are included that allow for image enhancement while maintaining data integrity.

Called the ID Image Analysis, the software is available form Kodak Scientific Imaging Systems (Rochester, NY, USA). Although the software is included with the Kodak Edas 290 gel documentation system and the Image Station 440CF, it can be used to analyze TIFF or JPEG image files produced by other systems.
