New System Helps Labs Eliminate Manual Processes

A new line of hematology automation systems is designed to boost lab efficiency, maximize labor resources, reduce errors, improve operator safety, and lower overall costs. More...
The systems were introduced at the annual meeting and Clinical Lab Exposition of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry in Philadelphia (PA, USA).

This new LH 1500 series features the diagnostic industry's only comprehensive hematology automation systems, states Beckman Coulter (Fullerton, CA, USA; www.beckmancoulter.com), the developer. Each system can manage the entire hematology testing process from pre-analytical sorting to postanalytical storage. Currently, 12 standard configurations are available and include two to four Coulter LH 700 series hematology analyzers with or without integrated slide-making and slide-staining capabilities capability.

With the new series, technologists place samples directly in the inlet. The tubes are then inserted automatically into individual carriers and routed to the appropriate hematology analyzer or outlet for nonclinical blood chemistry tests, such as HbA1c, sedimentation rates, and nonhematology tests. Tubes for hematology testing are transferred to instrument cassettes, which are loaded into the analyzer by a robotic arm. At any time, STAT samples can be added to the line. The LH 1500 series can switch from automation mode to independent mode with full-feature capability.
