Three new automated polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests provide early detection of chlamydia, tuberculosis, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

The SARS test (RealArt HPA coronavirus PCR kit), based on the highly sensitive real-time PCR technology, was developed by artus GmbH (Hamburg, Germany) in collaboration with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. More...
Artus manufactures all three PCR tests, but under a marketing and distribution agreement with Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Park, IL, USA), Abbot has worldwide rights to market and distribute the three tests.

Through an alliance with Celera Diagnostics, Abbott also has the right to market and distribute the tests on the automated ABI Prism 7000 system. All three tests are available throughout the world, except in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

"Our fruitful collaboration with Abbott on the development and worldwide distribution of our ABI 7000-based RealArt kits has allowed us to accelerate the availability of these products,” said Thomas Grewing, representative managing director, artus.
