Immunoassay for Pancreatic Cancer

The test has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called Access GI Monitor, the test is designed for the quantitative determination of cancer antigen (CA) 19-9 levels in human serum and plasma. The test produces results in less than 24 minutes. Total imprecision is less than 10% over the range of the assay, while calibration stability is 56 days. The Access GI Monitor is the product of Beckman Coulter, Inc. (Fullerton, CA, USA) and is available on the company's Access and Access 2 immunoassay systems as well as the new UniCel DxI 800 Access immunoassay system, which can perform up to 400 tests per hour. In addition, the Access GI Monitor is available on the Synchron Lxi 725 clinical system, which combines chemistry and immunoassay analysis technology with data management and automated sample handling on a single instrument.

"High levels of CA 19-9 antigen are typically associated with more advanced pancreatic cancer,” said Bernard Cook, Ph.D., medical information scientist at Beckman Coulter. "In contrast, decreasing levels of CA 19-9 antigen may indicate a positive response to therapy. Access GI Monitor is a fast, accurate method to determine CA 19-9 levels in pancreatic cancer patients and help in the evaluation of disease progression and response to therapeutic treatments.”
