(Adelaide, Australia), Oxoid, Inc. (Basingstoke, UK), now offers a new range of manual identification systems.

These systems include the MicrobacT, which includes a selection of self-contained, biochemical-based tests for the identification of key pathogenic bacteria, including Gram-negative bacteria, Listeria species, and Staphyloccal species. Before the acquisition of Medvet's media and diagnostics business, Oxoid and Medvet had worked together for a number of years, manufacturing and supplying prepared media and diagnostics products to customers in Australia.

In an unrelated development, Oxoid has announced that all its medical products now display the CE Mark, which provides Oxoid's customers with the assurance that a quality system is in place and that products meet the stringent safety and labeling requirements of the European directive. In the case of Oxoid, this has included the preparation of risk analysis files and the provision of new 10-language labels on its products.

"As a global organization, we are dedicated to meeting the many regulatory standards in force around the world,” said Richard Huggins, quality manager at Oxoid. "This latest European directive will undoubtedly improve the overall quality of the industry and will ensure that in vitro diagnostic device manufacturers are compliant with the necessary quality and safety standards.”
